Excerpts from our Guestbook 1999-2004

“I’ve spent four months in Sri Lanka, and it has taken me until my last week to find Arugam Bay - Very sad, as this is one of Sri Lanka’s best beaches with lots of character. Will definitely be first on my list of places to get back to. Tsunami is FAB!” - Rosy, Scotland

“I came to Arugam Bay with high expectations, however those expectations were easily exceeded !!! I’ve always thought Kovalam Beach in India was my #1 beach in the world, however I think Arugam Bay gives it a good run! Sensational room by the beach, well priced, great food, friendly locals, awesome waves (well, for the professional surfers anyway – but I did stand up a couple of times!!). Lovin’ Life!” David.

“Tsunami is one of the best places I’ve stayed at. Naleen and the boys are excellent and will make you feel very welcome + basically it is one of the most relaxing and fun places to stay at in Arugam Bay. Great times, good people, great beach, good surf – I’ll be back” - Craig, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“The wave in Arugam Bay is pretty much world class, and I’d love to surf it on its day –would be awesome!… I was stoked to have been to Arugam Bay, and the waves really turned on.” – A-Bay British Professional Surf Association (BPSA) tour competition winner Spencer Hargraves.

“Best time of my month in Sri Lanka, and possibly my life(?), was spent here at Tsunami. Great nights with the local band and local people. The manager, Naleen, is a good bloke and friend now, which you cannot say about most hoteliers anywhere. It’s nice when a place depends on the atmosphere that the manager and staff create rather than superficial aspects like shiny floors and poncy bullshit. I have traveled around the world and seen a lot of places, and I can tell you that this is one of the best. Great beach, beautiful vistas… Cheers Guys – I’ll be back.” – Greg, UK

“Thanks for a fantastic stay – loved the surf, adored the staff, laughed with the fun. Look forward to seeing you guys again soon!! “ - CJ

“Well…this place is beautiful and very friendly. Pasmeen is a great cook and always ready with conversation. Arugam Bay is the best place in Sri Lanka !! I’ll be back…” - Eric, Canada

“The contest exceeded all expectations and it finished off with one of the best finals ever seen. We have secured funding for the contest for the next 5 years. Our aim is to make it bigger and better next year” – BPSA president David Reed.

“Buenas olas, Buena Comida, Buena Gente. Que mas quieres? A veces puede nadir. I el agua stel muy celeutita” – Rocio, Spain

“We had a very nice time. Good service, good food” – Ursula and Children

“Fun Surf at the point, cheap beer, good food and a really nice room made for a really enjoyable six days. I’m sorry to leave. From now on I stay away from the arrack though!” - Scott

“We’re leaving tomorrow so lots of Lion Lager to be drunk by the Lion Lager Master! We’ve been in Sri Lanka 3 weeks and Arugam Bay has been a nice peaceful end to our journey. We walked up and down the beach, and Tsunami won hands down. So relaxing sitting under the trees hour after hour, reading, listening to the waves. The staff are the friendliest of the Asian countries I’ve been to. Also, the lobster we had last night was amazing. Thanks guys soooo much!! “ - Chris and Kim

“Had a great time, thanks to everyone. Great place to relax, surfers or not.” - George

“Super holiday. Cool place to chill, and we had our first experience of surfing which was very cool. Will have another try next time and will return someday, definitely” – Chistoph, Germany.

“Stoguando queste pagine noto che nessun Italiano e passato da queste parotid e non sono stupita di guesto – se li vuo!! “Thanks to all the staff for a top time had by us all. The monkey juice & cold tea always flowing fast, hot, hot, hot weather etc. Look out for Naleen's safari trips to the army camps and bamboo hunting. SOUND AS A POUND, GOOD AS GOLD!!” - Sam, UK

“This is the best place in town and we mean it!!! .....very good choice of music…lobster was delightful...these two days were like two days in paradise…..”

“Arugam Bay is one of the most picturesque beaches I’ve seen – and the plod into the headwind down to crocodile rock is worth every grinding step. The guys at Tsunami have been great. I’m only leaving because I’ve run out of money and have to head for an ATM. Aaaarrgh!” - John, Auckland, NZ

“Well well, nearly 2 months at Tsunami, plenty of surf, many bongs. Sad to leave this place but shall return. The Tsunami crew are a good bunch (however they may come across at first impression). Good luck to all. Om Shiva Papa! Bongbollanad to all. See you again soon” – Stu (England) and Monica (Portugal)

“We had 2 great nights at Tsunami, after a long trip on our motorbikes. Nice place, fine waves” - Solke and Stef, Belgium

“The staff are aggressive, unfriendly, lazy thieves who would regularly pee in my food…sorry! No…really, I LOVED it here, very relaxing, the lads were very friendly, funny and good to hang out with in the evenings. The food, especially the large breakfast, would keep me going all day.” - Gary, London.

“Merci pour l’accueil et l’hospitalite, de tait le staff de cette Guest house paradisique” – Nicolas, France

“We came to Tsunami first off the bus and checked it out. As always we wanted to have a look at some others down the beach to compare and shop around. Everywhere else paled in comparison – less value, dodgy people etc, so we found ourselves happily back at the Tsunami. Friendly guys, good food custom cooked. Chilled vibe, comfortable and quiet. We really felt at home and had a very relaxed time here. We hope you do too.” Paul and Ben, Washington (not DC) USA.

(Written in a child’s handwriting…) “I liked it a lot here. It was nice. The beach was nice and we even collected shells, and the shells were very nice. We can see the fishermen. It’s a nice place...” - Me (Chaanya), Chaashya (Sister), Nisanka (Mother), Chandana (Father), Randith (Grandfather), Maya (Grandmother), Maheshi (Auntie) Yeya (Servant), Chamma (Nanthii), Dammitha (Bappi), Malla (Bappi).
