(new site under development here) Welcome to Arugam Bay.. The Tsunami Hotel is located in the centre of Arugam Bay on the East coast of Sri Lanka - one of the most beautiful beaches on the Island. Arugam Bay is rightly famous for its surfing, but you don’t need to be a surfer to enjoy your time here… “I came to Arugam Bay with high expectations, however those expectations were easily exceeded !” It’s hard to say what makes Arugam Bay so special - the stunning natural beauty, the character of the local people, the surf, the fresh exotic seafood, the uniquely relaxed atmosphere of the place. It’s a combination of all these things, and something more you need to experience for yourselves. “Arugam Bay is one of the most picturesque places I've ever visited” We’re just to the North of Yala National Park, and because of the island’s past troubles this area remains unspoilt by the over-development found on the West coast. It’s a wildlife reserve in its own right. You can regularly see herds of wild elephants, eagles, peacocks, monkeys, water buffalo, all manner of There is a fantastic online resource on all aspects of Arugam Bay, from surfing to climate, to wildlife and geography that we would not even attempt to rival here. Thanks to the Stardust Hotel for arugambay.com “I was stoked to have been to Arugam Bay and the waves really turned on. The wave here is pretty much world class” - Arugam Bay BPSA competition winner Spencer Hargraves. June 2004 saw Arugam Bay host the inaugural ‘Champion of Champions’ British Professional Surf Association tour competition; Says BPSA president David Reed, “the contest exceeded all expectations and it finished off with one of the best finals we’ve ever seen. We have secured funding for the contest for the next 5 years. Our aim is to make it bigger and better next year”.
“Forget surfing, hammocks are much better!”; “It’s so relaxing sitting under the trees hour after hour, reading, listening to the waves...” The Bay is beautiful year round, and many of our guests are not surfers, preferring to relax and take it easy. You can spot the Tsunami from anywhere in the Bay, it’s the only place with 50ft high Redwood trees, providing cool shade for guests to while away the hours. We have 12 rooms and spacious grounds for you to relax in. There is safe swimming directly in front, and we have panoramic views of Arugam Bay. But we don’t see the need to do a hard sell - we feel our guests say it better than we ever could, and our guestbook speaks volumes. We invite you to have a read, take a look at our photo gallery, and make up your own mind. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of our guests who have helped make The Tsunami such a success, and look forward to seeing you sometime soon…
